Lately, I am Feeling Alone, but I know There are Millions Out There
But our media are trying to silence them
Every morning, I wake up and check my iPhone for the latest news, hoping to see some action taken to stop Trump from destroying our democracy. Instead, I find new reports of his efforts to erode or restrict our rights and freedoms. From the opposition Democrats, all I seem to hear are speeches from Schumer or Jeffries; all empty, ineffective threats with no real action behind them.
I read that J.D. Vance has labeled the trans community a "domestic terrorist threat" and said they should be targeted by the FBI. That idea was promoted by the Heritage Foundation in Project 2025 and has come to the forefront since Charlie Kirk’s murder, even though no definitive connection has been established between the shooter and the trans community. Every day there is another egregious attack on a group of people whom Trump sees as having no value to him or to his fascist agenda. So far, straight, white, middle class Republican men have been notably absent from the groups being targeted.
I know there are millions of people across the country who are upset with Trump’s assault on our democracy and are showing up in massive numbers to protest against his regime. I know this because I occasionally see it reported on the Rachael Maddow show on MSNBC, but never on any other corporate media outlet. However, I do see it reported daily on independent news sources such as Substack, YouTube, and TikTok.
For years, I have enjoyed political jokes at the expense of both Democrats and Republicans from late night hosts such as Johnny Carson, David Letterman, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, and others. Every president from LBJ to Biden has been roasted by late night comedians, except for the whiny, thin-skinned Donald Trump.
Because his ego is so fragile and he is incapable of taking a joke, he has attacked comedians by inappropriately and unconstitutionally pressuring CBS, Disney, and ABC to cancel Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel for making fun of him. Trump’s bootlicking Attorney General, Pam Bondi, has even suggested that the DOJ will prosecute anyone engaged in hate speech. But who will decide what qualifies as hate speech? Criticizing Trump, perhaps? Don’t laugh, he recently claimed that negative stories about him are illegal.
Trump has promised to go after other late night hosts and any group he believes is treating him unfairly. If you compare today’s news coverage of anti-Trump demonstrations with the coverage of antiwar protests during the Vietnam era, the difference is like night and day. Antiwar protests were shown on the news daily, while today’s anti-Trump demonstrations are almost never reported by the mainstream media.
Today’s corporate media is more interested in making as much money as possible, even if it means aiding the fall of our democracy. The media is controlled by a handful of extremely wealthy owners whose companies monopolize the networks and decide what the public is allowed to see. Even our local television stations are owned by either Nexstar or Sinclair media groups, whose right wing, Trump supporting millionaire owners dictate what your local news station can report.
I know that Trump is determined to seize complete control of our media so he can control us, but I never imagined that the very same media who once boasted about their sacred commitment to free speech and freedom of the press would so shamelessly sell out, groveling at the feet of a corrupt, power hungry dictator wannabe for a few extra dollars.
I also know there are millions of Americans who are actively voicing their opposition to the tyranny of the Trump regime. Of course, there are those who celebrate what has happened to Colbert and Kimmel as “owning the libs,” but they will soon realize that they too will be the next to lose their freedom of speech, and much more. These people represent only a small minority compared to the rest of America. Some within MAGA are finally waking up to the reality of what Trump is doing and are beginning to voice their opposition to him.
We have discovered that we cannot depend on Congress or the Supreme Court to defend our Constitution, and now we know that our media has become state controlled and cannot be trusted to act in our best interests. I understand that the wheels of democracy turn slowly while the forces of fascism can move quickly, but I am growing more frustrated every day. I want to see positive developments for democracy happen more often.
There are times when I hope there is a group of loyal military and political leaders, from both parties, acting secretly, come up with the answer to our countries suffering, but I know this is only a fantasy. The only answer is US.
Our opposition must grow larger and louder. The remaining members of the press who have not bowed down to Trump must have the courage to stand up to him. Companies like Disney and Paramount need to realize that they are nothing without our support and start defending our country. We must rely more on independent media, PBS, and foreign news sources for information. Most importantly, we have to fight for free and fair elections in 2026, because the only hope of saving our democracy lies in our votes.

I hope people come out to vote this time around. Like Robert Reich, I'm afraid we will not have free and fair elections.
I used to watch 4 hours of MSNBC. It's too much for me now. I only watch Lawrence O'Donnell each night he's on, and Rachel on Mondays. Lawrence was the first (that I know of) to call the maggot a liar, not untruthful, but a liar!
Oh, and I used to subscribe to Raw Story, but I was sick of them posting so many photos of the maggot. I just unsubscribed to The Daily Kos because they suspended me (detention) for calling him the maggot, which we've been doing for years. Seriously?
